South of England Cross Country Championships
4th Feb 2011 Posted in: Blog, Sport 0

Last Saturday afternoon saw me braving the cold winds in Hampstead Heath, London (although I expect no sympathy as I was fully wrapped up in thermals!).  This was the day of the South of England Cross Country Championships and I went along to both support the running club that I’m a member of (Ranelagh Harriers in Richmond) and also get a few shots of the runners who were racing in distances up to around 10 miles through the hills and mud of Parliament Hill Fields.

The racing was great to watch and I made sure I was at the top of the daunting Parliament Hill which everyone has to run up within seconds of the start of each race.  The recent dry weather meant that there wasn’t as much mud as in previous years (the course is famed for its ‘mud fest’) but there were still a few messy spots out on the course based on how some of the runners looked as they came past later on in the races.

I ran the senior mens race here in January 2008 and had a great time (once I’d finished that was!).  Maybe next time I’ll be in front of the camera rather than behind it…
