Grass Track Cycle RacingA couple of weeks ago we were down at Waldegrave School in Twickenham to watch the Central Region South Grass Track League race evening. Round 2 of the ‘South League’ was held on Thursday 2 June once again on a stunning summer evening. Numbers seemed fairly similar to last time, even though it was ‘half term’ for school children but quite a few still made it to the start line.

I’d only planned to watch the first few races but it was addictive. Seeing the little-uns (and the adults) racing round the 220m marked out grass track was great fun and there was some brilliant racing to be watched. In one of the adult races the finish line sprint almost ended up in a three person pile-up! Thankfully there were no fallers… this time!

Paula Radcliffe

Bank Holiday Monday saw me head into central London to watch the Bupa 10,000 road race – an event which also hosts the UK Athletics 10,000m Championships. With the recent news that Mo Farah was going to be racing along with the welcome return of Paula Radcliffe in her first race since November 2009, this had to be an event not to be missed.

I last watched the Bupa 10,000 in 2008 when it was pouring with rain and got a few good shots that morning – so much so that Athletics Weekly magazine used eight images in their race report. This time I wanted to try and get to a couple of different spots on the course – which isn’t the easiest thing to do when the leaders were going to run at sub-30 minute pace! For this reason I chose to get around on my mountain/commuter bike!
